Entwined Dual Switching Sequencer

CAPRI is a dual-output, 8-step sequencer and sequential switch for CV sequencing and audio-rate signal processing. Each channel has its own sequence length and reset input, so the two can run independently or offset from each other. The 8 steps are shared and can be distributed across both channels in any configuration. Each step outputs a static voltage by default, or works as a sequential switch (with the pot as attenuator) when something is patched into its input. Both modes can be combined freely. The fully analogue, DC-coupled design accepts signals up to 20kHz, so step inputs and even the clock can be run at audio rate, opening up oscillator sequencing and audio-rate modulation. Gates are shared across channels, with CV-controllable gate length and cross-patching options. Standard features round it out: forward, reverse, pingpong and random playback, CV control over start/stop and reset, an internal clock, and manual buttons for start/stop, step and reset. Important Notes before you Buy

  • Prototype images: Photos shown are from the prototype module. Minor silkscreen changes may occur in the final version.
  • DIY kit format: All SMD components come pre-soldered. Through-hole parts (jacks, potentiometers, LEDs, buttons, slide switches, power connector) need to be hand-soldered by you. After soldering, you’ll assemble the complete module and flash the firmware via USB.
  • Panel material: Panels are made from PCB (FR4) material. As soldermask application can vary slightly, minor cosmetic irregularities may occur.

CAPRI – Entwined Dual Switching Sequencer

At first glance, CAPRI might look like an ordinary old-school 8-step rotary sequencer. And it can be just that, if you want it to.
But there’s so much more than meets the eye.

CAPRI is a dual output, eight-step sequencer and sequential switch built for both CV sequencing and processing audio-rate signals.
Each sequencer channel has its own sequence length and reset input, so the two channels can run at different lengths and drift in and out of phase.
Additionally, a rotary offset knob can shift the second channel by a certain amount of steps in relation to the first channel, deepening pattern complexity.

The 8 steps are shared between the two channels and can be distributed across them in any configuration and/or overlap. With nothing plugged into the step inputs, each step’s output voltage is set by the corresponding potentiometer, just like any sequencer. (Static range can be 1V, 2V, 5V or 10V)
However, each step’s static voltage can be replaced by patching anything into the step input, now operating as a sequential switch. In this case, the potentiometers work as attenuators.
Both types of operations can be mixed freely with each other.

Since CAPRI’s signal path is 100% analogue, there are no limits on what can be patched into the step inputs. The DC-coupled inputs accept any signal up to 20kHz, so you can freely explore audio rate shenanigans in your system. Turn it into an oscillator sequencer, or use it to control FM amount in complex oscillator patches.
Even the clock input can accept an audio rate clock, turning CAPRI into an oscillator itself, or having it inflict synced audio rate modulation to other modules.
No limits here!

Gates are turned on/off with the step buttons and are also shared between the two channels, with the gate length being CV controllable, enabling more varied rhythms.
Cross-patching is also possible, using one channel to control the gate length for the other.

While being able to perform lots of more experimental tasks, CAPRI has everything a classic sequencer needs. Multiple playback modes (forward, reverse, pingpong & random) CV control over start/stop and reset(s), a stable internal clock generator and manual buttons for start/stop, step and reset, to aid in fine tuning your sequences.
